Geocache Description:

Parking is in the church's parking lot. A person in a wheelchair should be able to reach the cache without difficulty.

Located on the outskirts of Chaptico, this beautiful historic church has stood up to a lot. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, it is generally open for anyone to wonder in and check it out. (I enjoyed reading some of the older documents that are hanging in the entry way.) There is a historical marker that explains this church’s role during the War of 1812. The British didn’t show the respect that this place deserves.

The cache is small and is located on the perimeter of the parking area. There was some concern from the church about cachers not respecting the cemetery. We are welcome to wonder through, as is any other tourist, but just keep in mind that your actions will reflect on our caching community.

In the more urban setting of downtown Chaptico is another really cool marker giving a little more history to this area. You can find out what happened to the one who voted for Lincoln at N 38° 22.070 W 076° 47.006.

I bet you never guessed that Chaptico was such a happening place!
